Reading at Home
In order to become a fluent reader, it is important that children have the opportunity to read aloud. Therefore we have set out expectations for each year group for the number of times a child is expected to read to an adult at home.
Upper KS2 Expectations
Year 5 – 5 times each week.
Year 6 – 6 times each week.
In Y5 children are expected to read five times per week and in Y6 children are expected to read 6 times per week. It is really important that children read this amount of times as it helps them to become fluent and efficient readers.
Children have a reading diary which is part of the communication between home and school. This is used to document how many times a child has read during the week as well recording any other reading related issues.
