Phonics Screen Test

In Year 1, pupils usually complete a Phonics Screening Check, set by the Government each year, in which children are expected to read real and nonsense words to show that they are able to read Phase 5 sounds accurately.

Due to the Year 1 Phonics Screening in June 2020 being cancelled, Year 2 children are now going to be taking the Phonics Screening test in the second half of the Autumn Term. At New Ford, we have decided that the children will sit the test in the weeks beginning the 30th November and 7th December.

In order to prepare, the children are taking part in daily phonics sessions to recap sounds that should have been covered in Year 1. We  are also practising lots of past papers to familiarise your child with the format.
