Remembrance Day
In 2023, our Remembrance Day theme was picked up in our main whole school assembly, looking at the changes in Poppy Production and signposting the weekend to come.
The children looked in more detail at Remembrance Day history, its links with Flanders Fields Poppies and listened to some WW1 songs as they reflected on peace and war in the world.
Today we have each created a poppy and learnt about Remembrance day.
We have discussed how it's important to remember those soldiers that have fought, died and who are continuing to fight today to keep us safe.
We took part in a minutes silence during our whole school assembly and practised reciting a poem.
Lest We Forget
On Friday 10th November, Miss Ford held a special Remembrance Day assembly in the hall in the afternoon and children in our EYFS made their own Poppy craft to introduce the theme with our younger children.

As part of our Remembrance Celebrations in 2022 - we had a special whole school assembly with Miss Ford and observed the 2 minute silence.
Our children learn poems and performed this in class - see this example from Year 5 below:
As part of our Remembrance Celebrations in 2021 each year group contributed to a whole school corridor display. We linked our learning to British Values, Stoke-on-Trent and History.
We also looked at WW1 Poems of Remembrance linked to Literacy in 2021.
In 2021 our Remembrance Day Assembly thought about special things we want to remember and what can help us to do this. We looked at the origins and significance of this day. We had a time of reflection and as a school we held a two minute silence at 11 o'clock to join in with people across the country and the world.
In 2020, we thought about how people are being creative in showing their respect this year with restrictions on gathering at memorials and churches at this time, including our poppy displays.
A special thank you to Care Club and Mrs Dilek for our fabulous display to mark this day and show respect within our community.
Our Reception children also made their own wreath as a mark of respect as they joined in with thinking about this special day in their own way.
Remembrance Day is something we mark in a variety of ways over the years and we maintain a permanent display of some of these previous projects in our entrance hall and school corridor to show respect all year round.
