Outdoor Opportunites

Being Outdoors & Using the School Grounds

Here at New Ford we are fortunate to have extensive grounds which enable us to provide a wide range of physical development opportunities.

We have two playgrounds, an all weather pitch, landscaped gardens, designated EYFS outdoor interactive learning areas, a large field and small wooded area too.

Children have “ample opportunities to be active during the day” Ofsted 2019.

Break times/ Lunch times

Our Lunchtime Supervisors and Playground Leaders organise a wide range of activities for the children to participate in.

Forest Schools

Forest School enables our children to learn about our local environment and nature, whilst getting hands-on and muddy!

Mrs McDonald, in our Early Years Team, is our Forest School leader with her level 3 qualification. Since September 2019 our reception children have had a weekly Forest School section led by Mrs McDonald.

Sessions take place outside in all weathers making good use of our woodland and nature areas. The sessions are proving to be hugely beneficial to children’s physical and emotional wellbeing as well as encouraging their risk taking and confidence. We have been collecting sticks, creating woodland crafts, climbing trees, making pretend potions, building dens and playing group games.

Forest School sessions support the EYFS curriculum and in particular link to ‘ The Natural World’ strand. It also helps to provide the building blocks to understanding in subjects like Science and Geography in KS1 and KS2.

Forest School sessions support the EYFS curriculum and are proving to be a positive experience for holistic development.
