Baking Bread November 2025

Our Nursery children have been listening to the story of 'The Little Red Hen' this week.  We didn't think that it was fair that the other animals didn't help the Little Red Hen to make some bread, so we decided to help her by making bread rolls.

We learned about the ingredients that we would need and then how to combine them to make bread dough.  When we added the water to the mixture, it changed and became very sticky!  We all used our hands to squash and knead the dough.  We made lots of dough balls and put them onto a baking tray ready for the oven.  We had to wait for forty minutes for the dough to rise before they could be baked.  Our kitchen staff very kindly baked them for us and when they came out they were very hot and smelled delicious!  Once they had cooled down, we could eat them!  We sent some over to the farm for the Little Red Hen.  We hope she enjoyed them as much as we did!

Here are some of our children's comments:

Eddie said that we needed to wash our hands because 'There are germs on our hands.'

Isabella said that the flour felt 'soft'.

Jack said 'We have to put it in the oven.   It will change into bread.'

Arya said 'It's sticky!'

Bobby said 'It will change.'

Joseph - 'It's yummy!'

Rivahlyn - 'It's nice.'

Eddie - 'I like it.'
