Maths
Here at New Ford we teach Maths by introducing the children to new mathematical concepts through the use of concrete apparatus, including Numicon. Once the concept has begun to be embedded, children use the pictorial form to deepen their understanding and finally move onto consolidating their learning through abstract learning.
We ensure that children consolidate their learning through a wide variety of fun activities, often linked to real-life. Finally, children are exposed to problem-solving and reasoning type activities to help them master the mathematical concept.
In addition, children’s retention of key skills is tested on a weekly basis through our quizzes – the results of which are used to inform our start of day activities.
