Forest School Sep-Oct

Leaf Rainbow - One of my favourite FS activities. There’s only a small window where the leaves that fall are such a great mix of colours, so, we hunted for them in the woodland and arranged them into a colour changing rainbow. Afterwards, we went to our free-play activities and had a fun final session.

Woodland Silhouette - The woodland was covered in fallen leaves of all colours, so, we used our gathering skills to create a collage of a person. We talked about the items we chose and why we thought they were best for that feature. Then we went to free-play to improve our fine and gross motor skills!

Woodland Vocab - We used vocab cards to hunt for appropriate items in the wooded area. It helped us to embed our ID skills. Then, we went to free play activities and developed lots of other skills.

Tree Spirits - We had some changeable weather so we stayed a little closer to the school today. We talked about how, many years ago, people believed that the trees had their own spirit. To acknowledge this, faces would be put in the trees. We used clay to attach items from the woodland. We talked about what we had chosen, its shape, and why that was suitable for that facial feature. Then we had great fun gathering our own mud; created some mud paint, and made our own mud artwork!

Nature Crowns - The weather was great so we used the opportunity to collect natural items and create nature crowns. We used our new ID skills and chose items that wouldn’t sting or scratch us. We also talked about the seasonal woodland berries and agreed it was ok to use them safely. Afterwards, we went to our free-play activities and had a great time.

Woodland Exploration and Plant Identification - During our first session, we discussed our FS agreement. We explored the woodland area and looked out for plants that could sting or scratch us. Then, we went to the free-play activities and enjoyed the mild afternoon.
