Learning in Action

In DT the year 3 children have made a fruit stew.

Design brief - To make a pre-historic stew

Ingredients - apple, raspberries, blueberries , honey and water

All of these ingredients were available in the Stone Age.

Skill = Prepare, weigh and evaluate.

Year 3 Making Stone Age inspired stew

In Reception today, we practised our pouring skills again, we held the jug of milk and cereal boxes very carefully. We talked about a healthy breakfast and discussed where our milk and cereals come from, thinking about harvest and how farmers are now collecting their crops for us.

The children were shown a variety of soups and they had to read the label to pick out key ingredients which have been used in the soup, the children tasted carrot, coriander and tomato, the favourite was the carrot and coriander the children seemed to like the texture more.

This week, the children in Year 2 have used a range of construction resources to design a prototype of a moonbuggy.

Year 2 made moon buggies as part of this half term's D&T unit with a link to history. They planned, made prototypes then made the final product following a simple brief. They thoroughly enjoyed this project and had some fabulous ideas.

This week Poppies and Daisies have been learning about the traditional tale, The Gingerbread Man.

We have been looking at non-standardised measures to decorate a gingerbread face.

The Daisies and Poppies took part in a Wow Day. In the morning we visited the local shop to buy ingredients to make a sandwich, all inspired by our story, Whatever Next? By Jill Murphy.

In the afternoon we made the sandwiches ourselves. Then, we had great fun pretending to have a picnic on the moon with our teddy bears!

Our children love to explore developing their skills in Design & Technology in a variety of ways.
