Learning in Action
Year 3 trip to Pooles Cavern: This week Year 3 went on a trip to visit a real life cave at Poole's cavern. We discussed why and how people in the Stone Age would have used the cave and explored the purpose they used different parts of the cave for. We also learnt about the type of rock the cave is made from and how it was formed (linking with our Science topic of rocks). Finally, at the end, we tested our bravery and saw what it was like when all the lights in the cave were switched off! What an amazing day!

Year 3 - Black History Month
Year 5 Class AS, we researched Nelson Mandela’s life and the impact he had on the world. We then made our own fact files about him.
Whilst we completed the work we listened to various musical artists of black heritage.
In Year 2, we learned all about Rosa Parks and how she stood up for herself on one very normal day home on the bus. After hearing about her life and the segregations, the children designed their own bus and drew a mixture of people as passengers from all ethnicities.
Year 1 had an exciting WOW Day linked to their history unit on Florence Nightingale. The children took part in engaging sessions where they learned about the poor conditions of hospitals in her time, practiced cleaning and caring for "injured soldiers," and discovered how Florence Nightingale transformed nursing and healthcare. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that brought history to life and helped our young learners understand her incredible impact.
Year 1 had a fantastic history WOW Day, using drama to explore hospital life before and after Florence Nightingale’s impact. The children acted out scenes to compare the changes she made, bringing history to life in an exciting way. They also got creative by making their own Fanoos lamps, just like the one she carried, and drawing their own ward pets for comfort—just as soldiers had in her hospitals. It was a wonderful day of learning and imagination!
Year 4 really enjoyed their trip to the Roman Deva museum in Chester. The children had the opportunity to go back in time through the Roman museum and learn about Roman foods, gladiator fights and the Roman bathhouse.
They also put their skills as Roman soldiers to the test as they marched through the streets of Chester.

Our children develop a firm understanding of chronology when learning about the past. Each class has a time line which is added to and made reference to throughout each unit in order to deepen their understanding of not only stand alone time periods but how they crossed over.
