Making Jam Tarts October 2024

We have been learning all about Nursery rhymes this half term in our Nursery classes.  One of the rhymes we have been learning is 'The Queen of Hearts'.  To link with this rhyme, we have been baking our own jam tarts, just like the queen!  We used our fingers to mix flour, butter and eggs together to make the pastry dough.

We then used a rolling pin to roll the pastry dough flat, and used a cutter to cut out circular shapes for the base of the tarts.

We added jam, and baked them in the oven.  When they had cooled, we were able to eat them all up!  They were delicious!

We also learned about food safety and hygiene, making sure that we washed our hands thoroughly before the activity and after we'd handled the wet ingredients.
