Nursery Rhyme 'The Queen of Hearts'

The nursery children have been learning different nursery rhymes this half term. We have learnt the rhyme 'The Queen of Hearts' and we were sad that the Knave of hearts stole the Queen's jam tarts. We decided to make our own jam tarts in the nursery so that we could give them to the Queen. We first had to rub the butter into the flour until it looked like breadcrumbs. We then added an egg and used a spoon to stir it in with the butter and flour. Once this had been mixed together we had to roll the pastry dough out and then we cut them out into jam tart circles. We asked our cook in the kitchen to cook our pastry cases. Once these were cooked and cooled we added the jam or lemon curd. Finally we were able to taste and eat our jam tarts. They were delicious. We did bake some extra for the Queen of Hearts.
