Objects from the past
In the nursery we have been looking at objects from the past. These were different objects that would be used in the home to help with either keeping the homes clean and tidy or warming the beds or lighting the home. The children were unsure as to what some of the objects were and what it would be used for. One comment was that the rug beater was something used to put pizza's in the oven. Another comment was that the candle snuffer was a bell. We looked at the objects from the past and compared them to the modern day objects. The children were amazed that rugs were cleaned using a rug beater rather than using a vacuum cleaner and that people would warm their beds using a bed warmer with hot water in as they didn't have radiators or electric heaters to warm their bedrooms. It was decided that it was much harder to clean the home or to make a cup of tea in the past than it is now, in the present day. The children voted that it is easier to use modern day electrical objects now than to use the objects from the past.
