Other Reading Opportunities

Individual and Group reading

If children require further support with reading, they are heard to read by an adult in small groups or individually. Weekly fluency sessions also take place to support children with reading, providing children with the opportunity to read aloud, develop reading stamina, retrieve information and discuss a text.

Library

Year 3 and Year 4 children can access the Library on a Tuesday, Thursday and a Friday. A group of Year 6 children also volunteer as our school Librarians, helping children to read and explore books in the Library at lunchtimes.

Independent Reading Sessions and Book Talk

‘Book Talk’ sessions take place at the start of every guided reading session, when a new text is introduced. High quality Book Talk sessions are facilitated at other times when books are brought into school by children, when new titles are added to the class library or the book share areas are expanded. We also partner with other classes on special designated occasions such as World Book Day and other theme days.  During these sessions, children share books with each other, discuss what they like or dislike about a text and make recommendations.

Independent reading sessions take place regularly when children can simply enjoy getting lost in a book!
