We follow a range of reading scheme books which includes Project X and Oxford Reading tree.
These reading scheme books are used during children’s early stages of reading to enable them to master the mechanics of the process. Our reading schemes include a range of phonetically decodable text which encourages the children to apply their phonic knowledge.
We supplement the reading scheme with a range of high quality fiction and non-fiction texts as reading for pleasure is extremely important.
When the children have secured the expected level of fluency to decode, comprehend and infer information from age appropriate texts, they become a free reader. Free readers are able to select from an appropriate range of texts, their own books.
