Reading Scheme

In the early stages of learning to read, children are given phonetically decodable reading books to read in school and practise at home, that are closely matched to pupils’ developing phonic knowledge and knowledge of common exception words.

These books support our young children to practise and apply the phonic knowledge and skills they are learning.

The main scheme that we use at New Ford is ‘Phonics Bug’ by Pearson, but this is supplemented with other schemes such as Dandelion, and Oxford Reading Tree where appropriate.
