Visiting Speaker Assemblies
On Wednesday 12th February we were excited to welcome Anne with and Janice Burton MBE and her guide dog Peggy to represent the Guide dogs charity and talk about its work to the school.
Our school Council asked our children what charities they would like to support with the money that they raise from our school discos this year. Supporting an animal charity and health charity were both the winning categories.
As a result, the school council have researched different ideas and chose to invite representatives of the Guide Dogs charity into school to lead a whole school assembly, as their charity fitted with both of these themes.
Janice Burton MBE is a retired British Paralympic swimmer, who competed in B1 events having completely lost sight in both of her eyes. She won a total of 23 Paralympic medals during a career that spanned four Games. She remains the most decorated British Paralympian in a single sport.
Burton was appointed a MBE in the 1999 New Year Honours list "for services to Sport, especially Swimming, for Visually Impaired People.” Since retiring from competitive swimming Janice undertakes public speaking for Guide Dogs and about her Paralympic career and we were blessed to have her visit us Today.

After the assembly we voted as a school about which charities we wanted to support with money raised from our school discos, including options of RSPCA & WWF charities too.
