Wellbeing

Here at New Ford we recognise the importance of teaching our children to look after both their physical health and their mental health.


“The aim of teaching pupils about physical health and mental wellbeing is to give them the information that they need to make good decisions about their own health and wellbeing. It should enable them to recognise what is normal and what is an issue in themselves and others and, when issues arise, know how to seek support as early as possible from appropriate sources.” 

Teaching our children how to look after their mental wellbeing is an integral part of our PSHE teaching through the Jigsaw scheme.

 

In addition, due the impact of Covid on our children’s wellbeing, we implemented additional steps:

 

During lockdown, in addition to online learning, we also had mindfulness and wellbeing sessions timetabled into each day.
We created a focused section on the newsletter each well to support wellbeing for children and their families. A copy of these can be found in our dedicated wellbeing section of the website. Wellbeing section
Following school closure, we sent out a survey for families to complete:
 

 

During the first two days back, we had two full days of focused work on supporting children back into school. We focused on the NHS 5 steps to wellbeing:
