Wellbeing at New Ford

At New Ford Academy, wellbeing is a top priority. We provide a wide range of activities that help children feel safe, secure, and supported in developing healthy habits. This foundation enables every child to thrive and reach their full potential.

Year 1 have talked about the importance of keeping our minds healthy and how we can do that. We discussed listening to music, reading a book, walking outside to name a few. We then took part in a mindfulness activity using peaceful pebbles. The children used the words "calm", "happy" and "relaxed" to describe how they felt afterwards.

This week, we have practiced our fine motor skills by chopping different fruits to make our own smoothies. We used our knowledge about healthy foods and discussed how these fruits help us feel good both on the inside and the outside.

This Week’s Learning: Keeping Our Bodies Healthy This week, we have been learning all about how to keep our bodies healthy. We talked about how sleep, exercise, and eating healthy food are important for our physical health and help us feel good and support our wellbeing. We also explored the theme of harvest time and enjoyed reading the story Oliver’s Vegetables. Inspired by the story, we carefully chopped up a selection of fresh vegetables to make our own delicious salads!

Year 3 World Mental Health Day

On World Mental Health Day Year 3 discussed "What is mental health and why is it important?"

The children made "positive  post-its" where they wrote something nice about another member of their class and gave it to them to spread happiness and kindness in our classroom.

We also discussed all of the things that make us happy and help us have positive mental health.

This week in the Poppies we have been thinking about how to stay physically and mentally healthy. This has coincided with World Mental Health day and our class story ' Super Duper You!'.

Our Nursery children have been enjoying a mindfulness session where we have explored different breathing exercises and stretching. We have practised breathing in through our nose and out through our mouth. It helps us to feel calm, relaxed and happy. This supports our emotional and mental wellbeing.
