Assemblies
We like to promote reading as much as possible. One way in which we do this is through our assemblies. A series of assemblies, led by the head teacher, have been used to showcase the enjoyment of reading.
Teachers and other staff secretly shared their favourite books, including some from their childhoods. The children had to match the book choices to the staff member s they thought they belonged to.
Our children loved discovering new authors across a range of genres, hearing about some golden oldies that have stood the test of time and how staff continue to enjoy reading. It proved so popular that a display was created for children to refer to and inspire them to read and share their reading choices too.
In some assemblies in Spring 2025, our heads teacher has been revisiting the world of reading through exploring genres. so far they have explored graphic novels and non-fiction.
A year three child was invited to share his favourite non-fiction book which is Planetarium by Chris Wormell and Raman Prinja. He told us many interesting facts and he has written his own space book! Senna wants to be an astronaut when he is older. He had his favourite book from Jodrell Bank which is an observatory in Holmes Chapel. It was then when he discovered his love of space and his love of reading about space! "Because of my love of space and reading, I can list and identify star constellations. The easiest one to remember is Orion because it looks like a hunter. You can find him by spotting three bright stars in the sky." he said.
Our children have also had the opportunity to practise using their ‘reading roles’ during some of our assemblies when listening to stories which highlight our school values.
Children enthusiastically participated in the ‘votes for schools’ World Book Day assembly and particularly enjoyed discussing their favourite books and guessing the titles of some classic stories.
