Careers Day

Our Special Careers day took place on Tues 16th July.

We had pre planned various themes for the day and a number of visitors and speakers to engage and inspire our children.

There were a wealth of experiences provided by our teachers and these visitors during the careers day, providing children with a great insight into the working world/ different opportunities available to them and help to raise their aspirations for the future.

These included Judge Fletcher, Kelsie Nicholls and Beth Kendrick along side others detailed below.

We also invited in students and teachers from both Excel and Haywood academy to support with art, languages and science and work with our children.

Mr Roberts and Mr Kendrick also visited New Ford as a part of our careers day on Tuesday to work with Year 3 specifically.  They talked to the children about careers in engineering - sharing stories about work they had completed on the channel tunnel, rides at Alton Towers and more. The children enjoyed learning about how a career in engineering helps ensure things work and are able to be fixed. We then made our own safety jacket for an egg to protect the shell from breaking, which encouraged them to think critically like an engineer.

Dave Condliffe visited as a part of our careers day to talk to the children about careers working outside with nature.  He worked across a number of year groups. Dave shared some photos with the children of some of the wildlife that he has been lucky enough to see whilst working outside, and discussed some of the potential jobs that would enable you to spend more time outside. The children really enjoyed this and left feeling inspired.

Visitor feedback was very positive:

I am writing to tell you how much I enjoyed my day at New Ford yesterday. The whole experience from beginning to end was amazing. It was wonderful to be able to share some of my experiences with students who were bursting with questions and who showed a real interest in what was being discussed and a mature understanding of some complex topics and concepts. It was a real pleasure to get to talk and share ideas. What was really special though was the polite and friendly welcome which I received. Can I especially thank those students from years 3 and 5 who looked after me at lunchtime. New Ford is a special place and I will remember my day with you with great affection. Many thanks and best wishes to all students and staff.” HH David Fletcher CBE

All our children completed a special certificate for their personal development folder.

Pupil voice also captured the enthusiasm for the day.

Year 5:

Archie- I enjoyed everyone wanted to share their career and told us everything about it and gave it something to think about for our future. I liked the animals on Dave's videos and him showing us him feeding wild animals.

Year 4:

Lira: "I found Judge Dave most enjoyable because I have always wanted to know the different jobs roles in a courtroom. He even showed us his costume and wig! I was surprised to find out it was made of horse hair and how expensive it is"

Year 2:

Cody: The science was the best! I enjoyed making snow and love doing experiments.

Leo: I want to be a travel agent when I am older! I enjoyed looking at the currency and I went to send people to exciting places.

Careers Day In Nursery!

On Tuesday16th of July the Nursery children had an amazing day experiencing and talking about different careers. We had numerous role-play scenarios that we could investigate and learn more about. These included being a vet, looking after the animals, booking a holiday for our friends, looking after people’s teeth at the dentist, having our nails and hair done at the hairdressers and beauticians and taking our fingerprints at the police station.

These are only a few of the exciting opportunities we experienced. It was a fabulous day and we learnt many things about different occupations and jobs that we may like to do when we are grown up. We were able to use our creative skills to design our own buildings and make our own chef hats.
