Learning In Action
We are Scientists! This week we have been learning about minibeasts. We have discussed what different minibeasts look like; talking about how insects have 6 legs and 3 body parts and how spiders have 8 legs and are arachnids. We have also talked about minibeasts habitats and what they like to eat. We finally used our knowledge to create our own tasty treats. Thankyou for your 50p fund contributions, we had so much fun!

Children in class JBP have been developing a deeper understanding of the function of a plant’s parts by engaging in a hands-on experiment in which they remove either the flower, roots, or leaves from a plant and observe the changes over time. By monitoring the plant’s condition, they can see firsthand how each part contributes to its survival. For example, removing the leaves may result in slowed growth or wilting due to a lack of photosynthesis, while cutting off the roots can quickly lead to dehydration and death, showing the importance of water and nutrient absorption. Similarly, taking away the flower may prevent the plant from reproducing. Through this process of observation and inquiry, children gain a clearer, experience-based understanding of how each part plays a vital role in a plant’s life cycle.

As part of their science learning, year 6 children have been identifying the main parts of the human circulatory system and the function of each of these components. In groups, they created their own models of blood including red and white blood cells, plasma, and platelets.

Our children love developing their Science skills in a variety of ways.
We record what children explore and how they develop their scientific skills through floor books and videos too.
