Being Outdoors & Using the School Grounds
Here at New Ford we are fortunate to have extensive grounds which enable us to provide a wide range of physical development opportunities.
We have two playgrounds, an all weather pitch, landscaped gardens, designated EYFS outdoor interactive learning areas, a large field and small wooded area too.
Children have “ample opportunities to be active during the day” Ofsted 2019.
Break times/ Lunch times
Our Lunchtime Supervisors and Playground Leaders organise a wide range of activities for the children to participate in.
Forest Schools Sessions have been running here at New Ford Academy for many years with KS1 & KS2, with the school buying into external services to provide enrichment for our children and opportunities to learn new skills. Children have built dens and explored nature.
Mrs McDonald in our Early years team has now completed her Forest School Leader level 3 qualification. This means that Reception are now taking it in turns to complete a six week block of exciting outdoor activities, since September 2019.
Sessions take place outside in all weathers, using the natural materials found in the woodland areas, and are proving to be hugely beneficial to children’s physical and emotional wellbeing. We have been collecting sticks, creating woodland crafts, climbing trees, making pretend potions, building dens and playing group games.
Forest School sessions support the EYFS curriculum and are proving to be a positive experience for holistic development.
