We want all of our children to see themselves as successful readers and develop a life-long love of reading. At New Ford, we have a wonderful library bursting with a wide variety of stimulating books for all ages and reading abilities.  Many of the book titles have been selected by our own pupils.  Our library is used for both research purposes and reading for pleasure.

We use the reading vending machine which is stocked full of wonderful books that children can purchase with tokens earned for their hard work in school as one of our DOJO rewards and incentives for reading.

We currently use our Outdoor Learning classroom at lunchtimes as our new reading zone that replaced our ‘Reading Caravan’. This is available to children to use during their free time. It is a relaxing environment in which children can enjoy reading independently or sharing favourite books.

Reading ambassadors are used at times to support other children enjoying books by reading aloud to them during lunch. As well as reading and listening to stories for pleasure, this enables reading with fluency and expression to be modelled to children by their peers.
